Circulite Distribution Column

Distribution units provide safe and convenient facilities for lighting semi-hazardous areas (aircraft hangars etc).

Smith & Prince distribution units are the result of several years of design and development, resulting in a unit which is both robust and pleasing to the eye and is suitable for long periods of trouble free service with the minimum of attention. Service access is adequate and easy through a large hinged door at the rear face.

The particulars of the service to be supplied are to suit the customer's requirements and can be sited on the front or rear panels.

Type 440. Single Phase

Type 440 The unit illustrated is of our standard basic design and its particular specifications was:

Rear of Type 440 with access door open Transformer, chokes and starters are situated within the cabinet. The unit supplies power at 110v CTE to 7 off 6 watt Safety Handights and 6 off 2' x 40 watt Safetylites. (A 2' Safetylite is illustrated)

Type 440. Single Phase

The design is such that the base of the sealed cabinet which contains all the electrical components, is not less than 18" (457mm) from floor level, thus elevating all switching and heating components to a height which would be acceptable in a less hazardous area. The connectors are interlocked so that they cannot be inserted or removed whilst the current is live, and the switches, although contained within the sealed cabinet are encapsulated Mercury or micro switched. Each connector is circuit breaker protected.

Chassis The chassis is manufactured from mild steel tube with welded joints and is mounted on nylon casters
Cabinet The cabinet is manufactured from sheet mild steel, folded and welded in a manner to achieve extreme rigidity and to protect the projections of the electrical components
Input Cable The input cable length is to customer's spec, it is of heavy duty standard, incorporating an internal circumferential copper braiding, suitable for extensions over rough surfaces. The cable is protected with "Kellems" grip at the glanded entry
Sealing The cabinet, access door and the joint of all panels are sealed with Neoprene seals
Protection Each connector is circuit breaker protected. There is a general tendency to use 110v supply (centre tapped to earth), to provide non-lethal supply for trailing leads. Where this is the case the transformer is double wound, safety isolated and circuit breaker protected. A red light indicates "power on"
Connectors The majority of our requirements are met by Reyrolle Belmos Sockets who produce a range of 4 pole earthed, interlocked, switched socket that meet our requirements
Finish The metal casing and chassis are chemically prepared, primed and stove enamelled traffic yellow
Labelling All components are identified with engraved traffelite labels. The unit also bears maker's label, serial number and a label clearly denoting any limitations which may apply
Specifying When specifying, please indicate the requirements of faces A, B and D

Smith & Prince have produced distribution equipment cable assemblies and harnesses to specific customer drawings and along with our products, procurement of component parts is also undertaken.

Customers include the Ministry of Defence, Major Airlines including British Airways, Kuwait, Air Malta, and major international companies such as Shell and BP, along with The London Underground, British Gas and various local authorities.

Circulite Lighting/Power Distribution Column

The Circulite provides a combination of socket output facility and fixed lighting by means of 3 X 4' 40 watt safetylites mounted on 3 sides of the centre column with the other side fitted with socket outlets for continuation and external lighting.

All electrical components are housed within the sealed enclosure and all socket outlets are switch interlocked and circuit breaker protected. The Circulites are supplied with power from the main distribution units, festoon boxes, semaphore units or other circulites via 3 core PVC insulated screened cable and fused plug.

Service access is achieved by removing the socket plates
